Kerikeri Village

Kerikeri Retirement Village extends call for volunteer companions

When Kerikeri High School’s IT Ninjas team arrive at Kerikeri Retirement Village to help residents fix their computer problems, they bring more than their know-how. They bring their sparkle and their company. And they contribute to the bond that exists between the Village and the wider Kerikeri community.

The IT Ninjas are some of the many volunteers of all ages, backgrounds and expertise who help make things happen at the Village. These volunteers are a vital part of life here. We now have more than 70 people, ranging from pre-schoolers to centenarians, delivering a range of services to our residents.

But Penelope Spencer, our volunteer coordinator, is always looking for more

If you have any spare time, and you’d like to help, please call us on 4070070, speak to our receptionist, or drop an email to penelope@kerikerivillage.co.nz. You could make a huge difference to our less physically-able residents. A friendly face and a chat brightens their day, especially for those who don’t have family living nearby.

We don’t expect you to do take care of people’s physical needs, we have qualified staff to take care of all that.  But help with simple activity like reading or writing letters, arranging flowers, or serving meals makes all the difference to these residents. And the company gives them something extra to look forward to.

So if you’d like to do something a little different this year, please think of us. We’d love to hear from you.
