A bequest is a thoughtful way to support a cause close to your heart. After you have provided for your family and friends, a bequest to Kerikeri Retirement Village can be your lasting legacy.
You’ll be helping to improve the comfort of the elderly who have helped to shape our local community. Your gift is a way to keep giving beyond your lifetime and will help us to provide those extra luxuries that make life just that little bit better. Even the smallest amount will make a big difference and will bring pleasure to people who have worked hard all their lives and are now reliant on others for their care.
There are lots of ways to bequeath your estate for instance after providing for your family, you might choose to leave a percentage, or the residue of your estate, to the Kerikeri Retirement Village.
Or you might like to honour the memory of a loved one, or yourself, by making a significant gift to the Kerikeri Retirement Village through a trust.
Remember that a bequest does not have to be of money; you can leave jewellery, real estate, life insurance, stocks and shares to the Kerikeri Retirement Village.
And it’s worth knowing that a charitable gift made during your lifetime is not subject to gift duty and you are entitled to a third back as a tax credit.
Naming Kerikeri Retirement Village in your Will is easy. We recommend you seek advice from a solicitor and you may just be able to add a codicil or amendment instead of making a whole new Will.
Examples of clauses you may like to include in your Will that you can discuss with your Solicitor:
If a bequest is to be made after all other gifts and as a charge on the testator’s residuary estate:
I give the greater of the sum of $[___] ([___] dollars) or [___]% ([___] percent) of the value of my residuary estate, to the Kerikeri Retirement Village (Charity number CC22433) (“the Village”) to be applied towards the Village’s charitable purposes in such manner and at such time as the Village determines in its discretion.
If the gift is to be made with a request (but not obligation) for the funds to be used for a particular purpose:
I give the greater of the sum of $[___] ([___] dollars) or [___]% ([___] percent) of the value of my residuary estate, to the Kerikeri Retirement Village (Charity number CC22433) (“the Village”) to be applied towards the Village’s charitable purposes in such manner and at such time as the Village determines in its discretion, however I request (without creating binding obligation) that the Village applies my gift to [___] .
